March 13, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians:
During
the last few weeks, the Rocky River City School District (RRCSD) has
monitored the development of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and followed the
guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and
the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) to ensure the health, safety,
and well-being of our students and staff.
In
light of information shared by Governor Mike DeWine on Thursday, March
12, the RRCSD will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Friday,
April 3. During this time, there will be no school or school-sponsored
athletics, activities, or meetings. Student instruction will continue
online (see Required Assignments below).
School will resume on Monday, April 6.
The RRCSD will continue to follow the established 2019-2020 school-year calendar with spring break from April 10-17.
More information about the extended school closure can be found below.
Required Assignments
All
assignments for the first week of school closure will be posted by the
end of the day on Tuesday, March 17. Assignments for week two and then
week three will be posted thereafter.
- For grades K-5, assignment information will be posted on the Goldwood and Kensington websites.
- For grades 6-12, each teacher’s assignments will appear in the location where they normally post. A master list of all of these locations will be found on the Rocky River Middle School and Rocky River High School websites.
Lunch Details for Students in Grades K-12
The
Nutrition Services Department is prepared to offer boxed lunches for
students in Grades K-12 during this extended school closure. If
interested, please fill out this form to order your lunches. The form will need to be filled out for each individual child in your family.
Technology for Educational Purposes
If
you noted in your August back-to-school forms, or thereafter, that you
do not have access to a computer or your family does not have access to
the internet for educational purposes, our school district is able to
provide resources during this extended closure. For these resources, a
parent/guardian is asked to come to the Rocky River High School Media
Center on Monday, March 16, between 3:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
During
our extended school closure, a student technology trouble ticket system
will be available on building websites. Tickets will be responded to as
soon as possible.
Student Medications
If you need to pick up your child’s medication, please contact the school nurse today or Monday to make these arrangements.
3rd Quarter Report Card Update
The
last day of quarter three will be Monday, March 16. Parents/guardians
will be able to view quarter three report cards in ProgressBook on April
24.
We will continue to provide updated information during the extended school closure via our Instant Connect phone and email systems. You can also refer to the district’s ongoing communications regarding COVID-19 on our website.
Should
you have questions regarding COVID-19, the Ohio Department of Health
has established a Call Center, staffed by licensed nurses and infectious disease experts, to answer questions everyday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).
Thank
you for your understanding and patience as we continue to work through
this matter, and as always, thank you for your support of the Rocky
River City School District.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael G. Shoaf
Superintendent
