April 3, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope this message finds you and your family well. As we conclude the third week of our extended school closure, I want to once again express my sincere thanks to our teachers, staff, students, and parents/guardians for your continued support and patience as we continue to work through this matter. These are no doubt some of the most challenging times that we have gone through as a school community, but I am confident that we can overcome this challenge by continuing to work together.
Listed below are some updates as we prepare for next week.
Instruction on New Material and Assignments
- Instruction
of new material will begin on Monday, April 6. Instruction will include
using a variety of tools and resources, including zoom and
screencastify in addition to ones with which you are already familiar,
such as google classroom, video clips, textbook platforms and materials,
ALEKS, Achieve 3000, MyOn, etc.
- For grades K-5, assignments will be posted to each teacher’s Google Classroom. This will be noted on both the Goldwood Primary School and Kensington Intermediate School websites.
- For grades 6-12, each teacher’s assignments will continue to appear in the location where they normally post. A master list of these locations can be found on the Rocky River Middle School and Rocky River High School websites.
- Students will need to check each teacher’s location daily for assignments.
- Please be in contact with teachers regarding instruction/content needs for your children.
- As
a reminder to students and parents/guardians, during any and all
virtual instruction, established classroom rules and the Rocky River
City School District Student Code of Conduct are in full effect. This
relates to virtual meetings and electronic communications with teachers
and staff.
Communications from RRCSD
- Please
ensure that you are frequently checking your email during the extended
school closure. This is the primary source of communication from the
district and buildings.
- Moving
forward, the district will plan to send updated communications on
Tuesdays and Fridays, unless there is important information to share.
Lunches for the Week of April 6-10
- The
Nutrition Services team will continue to offer weekly boxed lunches for
students in grades K-12 during the extended school closure. If
interested, please fill out this form to order your lunches. The form will need to be filled out on a week-to-week basis.
- Lunches
will be available for the week of April 6-10 and all orders must be
submitted by 11:59pm on Sunday, April 5. Drive through pick-up will be
on Monday, April 6, between 11:30am-12:30pm at Rocky River Middle
School.
- As
a reminder, parents/guardians may fill out an application for free or
reduced lunch (RRHS/RRMS) and free milk (GPS/KIS) at any time. For
immediate processing please use the secure lunchapp.com
web site. Applications will be processed during the extended school
closure and the benefits will carry through the end of the year. These
benefits will also cover meals we are serving during the extended school
closure. If you have any questions about this, please email Nutrition
Services Supervisor Tina Wasserbauer ([email protected]).
Parent/Guardian Resources & RRCSD Coronavirus (COVID-19) Website
- We have added a few more parent resources to the RRCSD Coronavirus (COVID-19) website.

all of the teachers, staff, and students who participated.

- If
you would like to submit any pictures from #RrSchoolsVirtualSpiritWeek
or your children engaged in online learning, you can submit them to
Communication Specialist Greg Murphy ([email protected]) for possible use on district social media accounts or in future communications/publications.
FAQ’s
Please click here to visit our FAQ website. If you have a question regarding the extended school closure and COVID-19, please click here to submit it.
If the schools are closed further into May will the district look into using calamity days and end the school year early?
The RRCSD will continue to follow the Governor’s directives regarding closing and opening of school until the end of our school calendar.
I
thought I read somewhere that the assignments from 3/16 to 4/5 would
not be posted to the 4th quarter; however, my middle school and high
school student's grades for the last two weeks have been posted to the
4th quarter for several classes.
Assignments
from March 16-April 3, as well as new instruction starting April 6 will
be used to determine the 4th quarter grade. To view assignments and
grades for quarter 4 in ProgressBook, please click grades on the left side of the screen, then on the right side of the screen click Q4 for quarter 4 grades.
Thank you for your continued support of the Rocky River City School District.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael G. Shoaf
Superintendent
