July 17 - Communication w/ Preliminary Survey

July 17, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to create plans to safely reopen the Rocky River City School District. We have been in consistent contact with parents/guardians, students, staff, Board of Education members, medical and security professionals, and local health officials working on a comprehensive plan to meet the needs of students, staff and families.

I want to share the following components of the reopening and online learning plans and ask that you please take a brief survey by July 27 (linked here) indicating your preliminary plans for the 2020-2021 school year. The Hybrid and Open instructional models (below) both include a remote learning option (Option B). RRCSD will open school on August 31 for students in Hybrid and discussions for remaining in Hybrid for the first quarter/semester are ongoing.

  • A remote learning option will be available for families who choose not to send their children back to school for health or safety reasons. Parents/guardians selecting the Online Learning Option for their child(ren) are asked to commit to a full semester.

    • Registration for the Online Learning Option B will be sent out next week.

  • The 2020-2021 school calendar has been adjusted to the following:

    • August 25-28: Teachers and staff only.  This will provide opportunities for staff to engage in professional development, planning and the review of safety protocols.

    • August 31: First day of school for students in Hybrid

  • If your child(ren) is eligible for district transportation and you have not received a survey regarding transportation for the 2020-2021 school year, please contact Transportation Supervisor Erin Peacock ([email protected]).

We are committed to all students receiving the same high-quality instruction whether they are learning in a classroom or online from home.  At the same time, we are committed to mitigating the risk of COVID-19 as much as possible through the use of safety protocols and the guidance/recommendations from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Ohio Department of Health.

This remains a very fluid situation and we appreciate your understanding as we continue working to provide a safe learning environment where students can grow academically, socially and emotionally. We will continue to share news and information with you as it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support of the Rocky River City School District.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael G. Shoaf

Superintendent
