August 14 - Communication

August 14, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you and your families well. Since the COVID-19 health crisis began, we have been navigating this challenging landscape and making decisions to protect the health, safety and well-being of students, staff and the community by following the guidance and recommendations of local, state and national health officials.

Based on the recent recommendation from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH), the Rocky River City School District (RRCSD) will begin the school year in the Closed (Red) Instructional Model. The district will remain in the Closed (Red) Model for the first quarter meaning all students will be at home daily for remote online learning.  Below you will find each building’s time schedule.

The goal of our reopening plan has always been to get students back into our schools for in-person instruction. If the CCBH revises its current recommendation for online remote learning, I may recommend to our Board of Education reopening schools in the Hybrid (Yellow) Model earlier than the first quarter.

The first day of school for students will be August 31. Teachers and staff will report from August 25-28 to engage in professional development and planning for the start of the year with our focus being providing high-quality instruction and meeting the educational, social and emotional needs of all students.

Here is the link to all of our reopening plans, and below are this week’s updates.

District Account Access

All district access to technology resources (Clever, email, etc.) will be inconsistent for the next week as we transition to the 2020-2021 school year.

Mental Health Resources

  • The McKeon Education Group recently shared a list of mental health resources for parents that can be found here.
  • While the RRCSD is in the Closed (Red) model, school counselors will be available for all students.
  • The RRCSD has also increased the availability of McKeon Education Group mental health counselors at each building for the 2020-2021 school year.

One View Parent Portal, EZ Pay and Progress Book

  • The RRCSD is once again using OneView Parent Portal, an online service where parents can verify directory information on file for their child(ren), make any necessary changes, and submit beginning-of-the-year forms electronically.
  • All back-to-school forms must be completed in the OneView Parent Portal and all fees must be paid via EZ Pay by the start of the school year, including those for students who choose Option B.
  • Due to the COVID-19 challenges that all schools are facing, we are unable to release schedules via OneView.
  • To view your child’s schedule and room assignments for the 2020-2021 school year, please log into Progress Book Parent Viewer after 4:00pm on Wednesday, August 19.
  • You can log into each system at the following links
  •  If you have questions regarding schedules, please contact the school office at:
