Library Trustee Vacancy
The Rocky River Board of Education has the duty to appoint trustees to the Rocky River Public Library Board of Trustees. The trustee vacancy is for the term July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2021 (seven years).   
Rocky River High School National Merit Finalists
Three members of Rocky River High School’s Class of 2014 who were recognized as Semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Competition last fall have advanced to Finalist status. Emma McGorray, Enkhe-Tuyaa Dugarova Montgomery and William J. Spallino are now eligible for the final stage in the National Merit Competition. 
River Student Places First in Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest
Rocky River High School senior Natalie El Dabh won first place in the Rotary Club’s annual Four-Way Test Speech Contest for Rotary International District 6630 (northeast Ohio) on April 5, 2014. Natalie qualified for the district contest by placing first in the Rotary Club of Lakewood and Rocky River’s speech contest on March 31. Her topic addressed whether the emphasis on college admission keeps students focused on resume-builders rather than moral development.
Rocky River High School Student Athletes Commit to Colleges
Nine student-athletes at Rocky River High School were recognized on Friday, April 11 at the high school’s second annual Signing Day Celebration.    
RRHS Academic Challenge Team Advances to State Finals
The Rocky River Academic Challenge finished as runners-up at the Northwest Regional tournament in Tiffin, OH this Saturday. The team now qualifies as one of 12 teams to compete in the state finals on May 3. Team members present for the competition were sophomore Sai Vellala, junior Isabella Heimke, and seniors John Anderton, Maria Franko, Emma McGorray, Tuyaa Montgomery, and Will Spallino. Congratulations to them all on the achievement.  
Pirate Press Staff Win Awards at OSMA
Seven members of the Pirate Press staff along with adviser Ashley Morris attended the annual Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) annual conference and banquet on Friday, April 4, 2014. Students attended workshops and heard speakers on a variety of journalism and high school newspaper hot topics. The attended sessions ranged in topics from journalistic ethics and responsible use of social media to how to capture the perfect story and the future of newspapers. 
Goldwood Student is Top Dog Essay Contest Winner
Ruairi Zuercher was top dog for the day on Friday, April 4. That’s because the Goldwood Primary second grader won an essay contest sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office, which oversees the issuing of dog licenses. 
Fashion and Compassion On Display at RRHS’s Prom Fashion Show
With Spring finally in the air, Prom is not far behind. On April 3, a large gathering of friends, family, and community members braved a rainy evening to attend the Prom Fashion Show at Rocky River High School. 
Highlights from 23rd Annual Basketball Challenge Cup
Once again the RRHS gym was recently overrun by rats. Very cute, extremely loud rats of the 2-legged variety. Friday, March 21 was the annual Community Challenge Basketball Challenge Cup, and the Gym Rats boasted the most colorful cheering section in town.
