RRMS Kicks Off Right to Read Week 2014
On Monday morning, October 20, every student at Rocky River Middle School was given a copy of the book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick. The book giveaway kicked off Right to Read week and included a Skype session with the author. 
The Prescription Drug and Heroin Problem
The problem of heroin use and prescription drug abuse is on the rise everywhere, and that includes the Westshore communities of Rocky River, Westlake, Lakewood, North Olmsted, Bay Village, and Fairview Park. In fact, Detective Jeff Capretto, Special Agent in Charge of the Westshore Enforcement Narcotics Bureau, notes that 85-90% of crimes, from petty to serious, involve drug-addicted individuals. “The volume of people being arrested and charged is up,” says Detective Capretto, who has been working the Westshore area for 42 years, “but the incidents are at an all-time high.”  
Facts About Ebola
The health and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority, and we will do everything possible to make our school environment safe. The Rocky River City School District has been working closely with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) regarding the Ebola situation. We are monitoring recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and will institute them as necessary.    
Westshore Town Hall Meeting: The Prescription Drug and Heroin Problem
Parents and community members are invited to learn the facts about the abuse of prescription drugs and heroin use among our youth, address questions to a panel of professionals and find out where to go for help. The meeting will be held on November 5 from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Rocky River High School Auditorium. 
RRHS Students in Paper-Marbling Workshop with Renowned Artist
On Tuesday, October 7, Painting and Advanced Art students at Rocky River High School participated in a workshop with nationally recognized paper-marbling artist Steven Pittlekow. Mr. Pittlekow, who has taught workshops throughout the United States and in Europe, lives in Florida. He is on the board of the Morgan Paper Conservatory in Cleveland and was in town for an event there. 
RRHS Marching Band Trailer
The keys to the new RRHS Marching Band Trailer were presented to Board of Education member Dr. Jon Fancher by Trailer Project Chairman, Mr. Jim Spallino, at the football game on Friday night. 
Members of 1979 Football Team Recognized
Members of the 1979 RRHS Football Team were recognized at Friday night's game, along with Coach Vern Sharbaugh.  This team ended their conference season at 7-1, overall were 9-1, were fourth in the computer rankings and shared the SWC title with Westlake. 
Rocky River's AFS Students are Enjoying their Stay
This year’s AFS students come from Finland, Chile and Hungary.
