Student Council Coat Drive
Student council members and their advisor, Ms. Somrak, organized a RRMS coat drive for families in the Rocky River Assistance Program. A list of needed coat sizes was provided and staff and students could either donate a coat or money towards the purchase of a new coat. Thanks to the hard work of Ms. Somrak and the student council, 26 coats were donated to local Rocky River

Veterans Day Guest Speaker
Randy Wilkinson, the uncle of Mrs. Rowe and a Vietnam veteran who served from 1969-1971, spoke to sixth grade students on Veteran's Day about his military experiences. Students were captivated by his story and were thrilled to be able to ask a multitude of questions. The 45 minutes spent with Mr. Wilkinson was very powerful. Students left the assembly with a clear understanding of the freedoms we enjoy as U.S. citizens and the price paid to secure and sustain them.
Eighth Grade Awards
The Eighth Grade Teams awarded their semi-quarterly Stellar Student Awards to Max, Molly and Nadine. In addition, this year, all students have the opportunity to nominate deserving peers for Citizenship Awards and the semi-quarterly set was awarded to Amelia and Keegan. Congratulations!

Bed Bugs: Identification, Inspection & Treatment
Although we have not found any bed bugs in our schools to date, we want to share the following information with our school community, so that we can be proactive in checking for bed bugs.
You Are Loved Movement at RRMS
Rocky River Middle School students supported Bullying Prevention Month by wearing orange in honor of Unity Day.  The National Bullying Prevention Center started Unity Day as a way to spread Kindness, Acceptance and Inclusion.  RRMS Builders Club students further supported the Unity Day effort by passing out "You are Loved" cards.  Students passed out nearly 600 cards with messages like "You are Creative-pass it on" and "You are Intelligent-pass it on."  Builders Club President, Maia had this to say about the movement: "The You Are Loved Cards are a great way of brightening someone's day.  In my experience, when I got the cards to pass out, I was excited.  The cards were beautifully decorated, and I was enthusiastic about handing them out.  I soon ran out of cards, but then I noticed how the people I handed them out to were passing it on.  We had started a chain reaction!  I was excited how just one of the You Are Loved cards had made a difference in our school, and we had spread the feeling of kindness. Even yesterday, I was handed a card from someone else.  I know we will still be seeing these for a long time.  It is the gift that keeps on giving."
Seventh Grade Awards

Seventh Grade Olmypics
Students in seventh grade social studies classes wrapped up their study of Ancient Greece by competing in the Olympics last Friday.  Students from Mrs. Rowe's classes competed against students in Mr. Saksa's classes throughout the day in events like the wheelbarrow race, the three-legged race, a hula-hoop contest, the tug-of-war, and more.  Showing pride in their "city-states" by wearing the same color, the kids also prepared chants to yell during competition and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship.
