The Westshore Young Leaders Network (WYLN) is a regional student leadership group, comprised of middle and high school students from the six Westshore school districts. The primary goal of WYLN is prevention of alcohol and other drug use among teens through the enrichment of skills in effective leadership, team building, decision making and individual talent development. The first meeting for all returning and any new students that are interested is Wednesday, August 31 at 7:45 a.m. in the Media Center! National Mix It Up Model School
Rocky River Middle School's Be the Change group organized a Mix It Up day that brought students differently-abled together with other students. During a week of thanks, they encouraged everyone to give honest praise to family members, other students, teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians, bus drivers and other staff. They created a giant bulletin board that said “thank you” written in 22 other languages. They kept the positive energy up with a Week of Kindness!

New Immunizations Required for 7th and 12th Graders Fall 2016
The Ohio Department of Health has revised the immunizations requirements for the 2016-2017 school year. All students entering the 7th grade are required to have one dose of Meningococcal vaccine and one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) prior to the start of school. In addition, all students entering the 12th grade are required to have two doses of Meningococcal vaccine prior to the start of school. However, if the student received their first dose after their 16th birthday then just one dose of Meningococcal is required. You may obtain the Meningococcal and the Tdap vaccines from your private physician or other community providers. Please consider the new guidelines when scheduling your child’s next medical appointment. These vaccines are also available from the Cuyahoga County Board
of Health. Please call 216-201-2041 for an immunization appointment or for additional information.

Stop the Hate!
Rocky River Middle School was well represented at the Maltz Museum's annual Stop the Hate! Youth Speak Out essay competition by eight grader Jacob Gibson. Winning first place in the eighth grade division and $300.00, Jacob's essay reminds peers to be sensitive to joking with friends as the teasing can be unintentionally interpreted as intimidation or bullying.
OMEA Competition
Congratulations Rocky River Middle School choir kids! About 65 7th and 8th grade singers performed on Saturday, April 9th in ensembles and as soloists at Tri-C West at the OMEA D4 MS contest. Twenty-six performances earned a Superior rating and ten earned an Excellent rating! Big thanks go to our vocal coach Donna and our accompanist Ruth.  Thanks also to our dedicated Rocky River parents who support music education for their children and encourage them to continue to learn and grow as musicians and scholars.
