RRMS Science Olympiad Qualifies for State Competition
On March 21st, the RRMS Science Olympiad team competed at the Regional tournament at Westlake High School.  The team placed 5th overall, qualifying for States, and many individual students earned medals and ribbons for their individual events.  In addition, both the middle and high school teams brought instruments and played the Alma Mater, followed by a few rounds of the Pirate Rumble, in order to win the Division C Spirit Award.  It was an exciting day and the team is now looking forward to competing at the State tournament at OSU on Saturday, April 11th.  Good luck Pirates!
RRMS students performed Joust! A Mighty Medieval Musical on March 13th & 14th. The performances were enjoyed by staff, students and parents.
Winter Sports Banquet
Our student athletes were recognized at the Winter Sports Banquet on Monday, March 23rd.  Athletes recognized include members of the cheerleading squad, wrestling and boys and girls basketball teams.
Letters About Literature Contest
Congratulations to sixth grader Marin!  Marin's entry to the Letters About Literature contest was among the 165 letters that were advanced by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress out of the 1,784 total letters which were received from Ohio students.  Marin wrote a letter to author Scott O'Dell in response to his novel Island of the Blue Dolphins.  The letter reflects the theme of gratitude for all that we have as well as her admiration for the main character Karana who is left alone to survive on an island.  Best of luck to Marin in the next phase of the competition.
Because I Said I Would
Rocky River Middle School  has joined the "Because I Said I Would" movement as a continuation of our "No Place for Hate" project.

The students are all vying for a spot at the National Geography Bee in Washington, DC.
Scripps Spelling Bee
Valentin Neculaescu was the RRMS representative in Saturday's Northeast Ohio Media Group's Cuyahoga County Scripps Spelling Bee.  Forty two students, each representing area districts participated.  As a group, the students did very well and the pronouncer was forced to use an auxiliary list of words that the students had not studied by the seventh round. Valentin misspelled his ninth round word, "muzak," with only 6 students left.  If you see Valentin this week, please congratulate him on a job well done!
