Patriot's Pen Essay Contest
In October, the 8th grade American History classes participated in a national essay contest titled "The Patriot's Pen", sponsored by the VFW. Pat Straley, of the North Olmsted branch of the VFW graciously offered to be our local sponsor. Thirteen student essays were selected for district competition and were reviewed by Pat and other volunteers for possible submission to the regional competition. Although none of the selected essays were chosen for the next level, three students earned special recognition for their work. Mr. Laposky and Mrs. Fox would like to thank Pat and the North Olmsted VFW for being our sponsors and we look forward to participating next year.  The students selected for district completion were: Lily, Hannah, Audrey, Adam, Jane, Dasara, Zoey, Ella, Joey, Madeline, Lillian, Anna and Jacob.  The top three essays, which earned a monetary award from the VFW were awarded to: Hanna (first place), Lily (second place) and Jacob for third place.
Holiday Locker Decorating
The 7th grade Explorers Team created a locker decorating contest. Students had four different themes they could choose from (spreading cheer, holiday traditions, etc). PTA sponsored it and donated four $10 Target gift cards so we could award a prize for each category. We had "celebrity" judges come in (Liz Anderson, Sam Gifford, Jenn Norman and Megan Rose) and they decided the winner for each category. We also gave some additional awards, such as the "Pinterest Perfect" award and the "Makes You Smile" award. We had over half of the team participate in this contest and the teamwork we saw throughout this activity was incredible!

Little Free Library

The Little Free Library movement has officially come to Rocky River Middle School! Little Free Libraries are quickly becoming a global phenomenon as there are currently over 36,000 of these small, front-yard book exchanges in over 70 countries around the world. Now, a Little Free Library is officially open to the public at RRMS. The students and staff at RRMS are encouraged to join the movement by taking, sharing books, and exchanging reading materials through our Little Free Library. This will help contribute to a community of readers in Rocky River. We welcome your continued support in fostering the literacy of both children and adults around the world, and in our very own community.

Our Little Free Library (Charter #46691) is the first one of its kind in Rocky River. This very special addition to our community was made possible by the RRMS PTA and with the help of the RRMS Builder’s Club. The generosity of both the staff and students at Rocky River Middle School has also made this Little Free Library a success.
