Bucs tame Tigers 6-0

RR Boys Soccer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 30, 2024) -- On Monday night at Rocky River Stadium, it was the home side that showed its stripes. The Pirates grabbed the Tigers by the tail and yanked them to the turf, as River defeated Chagrin Falls 6-0 to keep a lengthy unbeaten streak intact.

The River Raiders had the Tigers in a cage early, and they did not look back as they ran their since-Sept. 4 unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2). Rocky River scored a first-minute goal (Jordan Cook from Steph Loizos and Ethan Marsh) among four netfinders in the opening half. The Pirates (9-2-2) outshot Chagrin Falls 8-1 in the first half and would go on to deal out a  13-3 edge in attempts.

Of their 13 efforts, seven were on target. Six found twine. With two goals each, Cook and Eric Gorius were responsible for two-thirds of that goal-scoring production. Quentin Daily and Loizos also scored. Sebastian Maher chimed in with a pair of assists.

Goalkeeper Matthew Swislocki went the route in goal and came away with three saves.

In their eight-game unbeaten streak, the Sons of Blackbeard have outscored foes 25-3.

Monday's match marked the front end of a busy week for the Lads in Maroon. The Pirates, who have three games on the schedule this week, will host a Cleveland West Conference contest against Buckeye on Wednesday (7 p.m.).

Monday's result marked River's third straight win against Chagrin Falls (7-6-2), who failed to land a goal for the first time this season. In a 32-game all-time series, the Tigers have a 14-10-8 edge.
