Pirates tame Tigers 5-1

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 14, 2024) -- Rocky River banged out a quartet of first-half goals en route to a non-conference conquest Saturday afternoon. The Pirates defeated the Chagrin Falls Tigers 5-1 to remain unbeaten this fall.

Senior Sophia Sindelar continued her assault on the Double-R record book. Sindelar figured in all five Pirate scores. The senior became River's all-time leading point scorer earlier this month and through the team's first eight games has scored 43 points.

It was Sindelar who registered the first of River's four first-half tallies when she planted a Grace Quaiser assist in the 18th minute. Over the next 19 minutes, the Pirates (7-0-1) allowed one goal while scoring three (Addie Russell, Summer Seed, Quaiser).

A Sindelar marker early in the second half marked the final score of the match, and the Pirates played out the victory on home turf. The senior standout finished with two goals and three assists. She has filed at least two points in every game this season.

The 5-1 win marked River's second in a row by that same score over the Tigers. Rocky River has defeated Chagrin Falls in three straight games overall.

The Maroon & White will be on the road for their next match. They will play at Cleveland West Conference foe Lakewood (at Garfield Middle School) on Wednesday.
