ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (May 18, 2024) -- Saturday's Rocky River game amounted to extra baseball in more ways than one. The Pirates hosted Revere in a regular-season affair, a break from their postseason run. And the contest went extra innings to the point of tacking on a second seven stanzas in what resulted in a 3-2 Pirate victory.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Pirates tied the game 1-1 when Dan Capka singled home pinch runner Landon Biscardi, who had stolen second base to get in scoring position after spelling Brady Patsouras. Patsouras had singled to get the Double-R going after having been shut out for six innings.
Both teams scored in the eighth, the Pirates with the benefit of another steal; River registered seven stolen bases in the game. The contest then turned into a bagel trade for five innings. For the Pirates, all of those frames were twirled by junior southpaw Joe Brant, who came on in the seventh after Michael Perry and Anthony Locsei had pitched well for the home nine. Brant would deliver the Buccaneers all the way to the finish line; he went eight innings, holding the Minutemen to one unearned run on six hits and two walks. Brant's marathon relief outing included seven punch-outs.
The Pirates won the game in walk-off fashion when a re-entered Patsouras banged a two-out RBI single to center, plating Griffin Hill.
Capka (3-for-6), Patsouras (2-for-4), and Josh Mommers (3-for-6, double, walk, two stolen bases) had multiple hit for the Pirates (22-5).
River, which is now 5-1 this season in games decided by one run, will face Norton in a Monday Northeast 5 District Tournament semifinal game at North Ridgeville High School (2 p.m.).
