BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (May 7, 2024) -- The Sons of Blackbeard finished off a two-day plunder of the Bay Rockets with a 4-0 victory in a Tuesday battle at Bay High School. Right-hander Michael Perry followed fellow senior Thomas Rossi by pitching a complete-game shutout. Perry scattered four Bay hits, all singles, as the Pirates earned their fifth shutout win of the season
Rocky River (19-4, 10-1 Great Lakes Conference) saw its offense counter with four extra-base hits among seven hits total. The visiting nine plated one run in the first inning, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth. The Pirates, who defeated the Rockets 5-0 Monday, made the most of just eight base runners registered against stingy Bay pitching (Carter Ormsby: 7 innings pitched, Travis Ropelewski: 1 IP). River went 3-of-8 with runners in scoring position.
Perry walked one and struck out eight in lowering his season ERA to 1.65. He has now given the Buccaneers six innings-plus in five of his last six starts.
Griffin Hill (2-for-3, RBI, two runs, stolen base) and Jeff Maslar (2-for-3, 2 RBI) each had two hits for the Pirates. Maslar, Dan Capka, and Rossi doubled in the game. Josh Mommers logged his third triple of the spring.
With the win at Bay, Rocky River clinched the GLC West Division title. The Pirates will close out their league slate with a Wednesday road game at Buckeye, but they head into the contest with a multi-game lead in the West.
