ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Aug. 16, 2024) -- Rocky River logged a busy week of match play, as the Pirates took on six foes across a span of four days. All six matches were Lake Erie Girls Golf Association tests, and the Double-R acquitted itself well going 5-1.

The Pirates -- winners of the six-team LEGGA Preview on Aug. 5 -- opened the second week of the season with a Monday road tri-match at Grey Hawk Golf Course in LaGrange. Rocky River posted a team score of 199 in a split with Keystone (195) and Westlake (230). The loss to the Wildcats marked the Maroon & White's first LEGGA setback in more-than-two years.

On Tuesday, the Pirates notched a 194-237 rout at Columbia. That match was played at Pine Brook Golf Links in Grafton. 

A day later, River went low, carding its lowest score of the week in a rivalry test at Bay. Senior Mia Ginnetti registered a 1-under 33 on the outward nine of the match played at Sweetbriar Golf Club in Avon. Ginnetti's round was constructed of one birdie -- a 3 on the 228-yard, par-4 third -- and eight pars. As a team, the Buccaneers filed a 161 against Bay's 187.

On Thursday, the Pirates closed out their four-event-in-four-days stretch with a home tri-match against Columbia and Keystone. The Double-R doubled up on wins on their home turf at Big Met Golf Course. River defeated Columbia 172-260 and earned a measure of retribution with a 172-193 triumph over Keystone. Ginnetti fired a sub-40 nine for a second straight day and for the fourth time this season: she carded a 38 on the 2,734-yard, par-36 front side on the Pirates' riverside, valley track in Fairview Park.

For the week, Rocky River's top scorers were Ginnetti (39.8 average), Julia Schmid (45.3), and Addison Crane (45.5).

The Pirates (5-1, 5-1 LEGGA) are slated to continue their season at Monday's Magnificat Invitational at Avon Oaks Country Club in Avon.
