FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (Aug. 26, 2024) -- Back on Aug. 12, Rocky River swung into match play after a week of tournament action. River split a pair of matches on that Monday. River split a tri-match that day, winning one match and losing the other by just 4 strokes. since then, the Pirates have won seven in a row. That latest of those conquests came Monday at Big Met Golf Course where the Maroon & White clocked a 30-stroke triumph over the Westlake Demons in Lake Erie Girls Golf Association play.
Senior Mia Ginnetti kept her fine start to the fall chugging along. Ginnetti carded a 2-over 38 to lead a swashbuckling Buccaneer effort against the Demons, who Rocky River swept in a two-match LEGGA series (WHS was the opponent in the winning half of River's Aug. 12 split). Ginnetti's 38 on the 2,734-yard front nine at Big Met was backed by two 46s (Addie Crane, Julia Schmid) and a 51 Caroline Kelly.
With her 38, Ginnetti closed out the month of August (River's next event is slated for Sept. 3) with a sub-40 scoring average (39.7). Kelly's 51 marked a personal season-best score in a nine-hole match.
Rocky River's margin of victory was nothing new. Of the seven victories in the win streak, five have been by 20 strokes or more.
On Monday, the Pirates (8-1, 7-1 LEGGA) and Demons toiled on a sweltering afternoon in the valley. The Double-R will look to continue its win streak Sept. 3 with a Big Met LEGGA tri-match against Bay and North Olmsted.
