FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (Aug. 22, 2024) -- The Pirates closed out their week with a valley tri-match against Avon Lake and Padua Thursday. Rocky River swept the Shoregals and Bruins to run its season mark to 7-1.
Playing the 2,906-yard, par-37 inward nine at Big Met Golf Course, River's top four totaled a 199. That topped Lake Erie Girls Golf Association foe Avon Lake (205) by 6 in what marked the Pirates' second-closest match of the season (195-199 loss to Keystone Aug. 12). The Double-R downed Padua, a non-conference opponent, by a score of 199-212.
Seniors Mia Ginnetti (44) and Julia Schmid (48) paced the River effort. The Pirates' No.3 was fellow senior Caroline Kelly who tied a personal-season-best nine with a 53.
Lily Dorsey led the Shoregals with a 47. Tatum O'Toole paced Padua with the same score.
The contest in idyllic late-summer conditions marked the first of four straight valley events for the Maroon & White. That stretch for the Buccaneers will continue on Monday when Rocky River (7-1, 6-1 LEGGA) is slated to host conference-foe Westlake at Big Met.
