Buccaneers capture bronze in big-field invite at Thunderbird

RR Girls Golf

HURON, Ohio (Aug. 7, 2024) -- Seniors Mia Ginnetti and Julia Schmid paced a third-place finish for Rocky River in Wednesday's Edison Invitational at Thunderbird Hills Golf Course. Ginnetti clocked a runner-up finish by posting an 8-over 42-38--80 on the par-72, 4,721-yard south course at Thunderbird. Schmid registered a 47-45--92, and for a second straight year the Pirates earned hardware at the event hosted by Edison High School.

As a team, River scored a 361. Only Highland (330) and Ashland (349) were better in a crowded field of 22 teams and 132 golfers. The Pirates' No. 3 and 4 scores were ledgered by Rylie Quaiser (93) and Addison Crane (96).

A small golf towel could cover the spread of Ginnetti's four nines posted this season (in order: 39-40-42-38). The now-senior -- a first-team all-Lake Erie Girls Golf Association talent and district qualifier last fall -- also carded an 80 in the 2023 Edison invite at Thunderbird.

Next up for the Double-R is the squad's first match action of the fall. The Pirates will tangle with the Keystone Wildcats and Westlake Demons in a LEGGA tri-match at Grey Hawk Golf Club Monday. That double-dip against LEGGA foes marks the front end of a busy week for the Maroon & White. The Buccaneers are slated to play matches Monday-Thursday.
