Ginnetti goes low, and Pirates take 7th at Flamingo Frenzy

RR Girls Golf

PARMA, Ohio (Aug. 20, 2024) -- Rocky River competed in the 20-team Flamingo Frenzy at Ridgewood Golf Course Tuesday. Led by a 3-over 73 by senior Mia Ginnetti, the Maroon & White took seventh place in the 20-team tournament hosted by Hudson High School.

Ginnetti went 37-36 on the par-70, 5,208-yard Parma layout. The round marked her career-best, and it was just one stroke off the RRHS record. As a team, the Pirates registered a score of 349. Magnificat (308), St. Joseph (318), and the host Explorers (321) carded the top three scores. The Pirates' four scoring players were Ginnetti, Julia Schmid (43-45--88), Addie Crane (48-46--94), and Rylie Quaiser (48-46--94).

Ginnetti, a district qualifier and all-Lake Erie Girls Golf Association honoree as a junior, has now fired sub-40 nines in four of her last six attempts. Her team-leading season stroke average (nine-hole) is 39.5.

Rocky River has played in five tournaments this fall. The Pirates have clocked first-division finishes (placement in top half of the field) in four of those events.

The River linksters are slated to return to action with a non-conference home match on Thursday. That contest has the Pirates hosting Padua at Big Met. The RR-Padua tilt marks the first of four straight scheduled events at the Buccaneer's home track in the valley.
