Bucs bitten by Bulldogs, fall 4-3

Myrtle Beach High School

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 23, 2025) -- The Pirates had a three-game win streak come to an end with a 4-3 loss to Poland Seminary in Wednesday play at the South Atlantic Bank Invitational.

In what was a Palmetto State battle between two seven-win teams from the Buckeye State, the Bulldogs (8-1) struck early and won a tight game in wire-to-wire fashion. Poland displayed some first-frame clutch hitting, and the Pirates (7-4) found themselves down 3-0 when they came to bat in the bottom of the first inning. River was able to manufacture a run to get on the board in the third but only after the Bulldogs had tacked on a fourth run.

In the fifth, the Maroon & White got within one (4-3) when the bottom of the order created some pressure on Poland starter Jacob Hayes. No. 8-batter Landon Biscardi singled with one out and advanced to the keystone sack when No. 9 Elliot Hibshman was plunked by a pitch. Both runners came around to score, but Rocky River left two runners in scoring position and failed to get the most out of the rally.

That would be the end of scoring in a game called after six because of rain. Michael Perry pitched for River and allowed four runs (three earned) in six innings, He yielded five hits and three walks while striking out 10. Hayes countered with six frames for the Bulldogs, who have now allowed just 15 runs in nine games. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. He punched out six Pirates without issuing a base on balls.

Poland cleanup hitter Tyson Tarajack went 2-for-3 with a home run. River's Brady Patsouras went 2-for-3.
