ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 29, 2025) -- On a windy Tuesday at the Bus Yard, the Pirates pulled off a late-game comeback to seal a two-game season sweep of North Olmsted with a 6-3 triumph over the Eagles.
Rocky River, which defeated North Olmsted 13-1 on Monday, was down 2-0 from the first inning until the bottom of the fifth. In that fifth stanza, the Buccaneers struck for four runs. RBI hits by Griffin Hill, Jeff Maslar, and Matt Gutia helped vault the Double-R in front.
River would trade one run for two the rest of the way, Michael Perry was his own best closer, and the Pirates (10-5, 6-1 CWC) prevailed in their third straight Cleveland West Conference affair and their third consecutive game overall. Perry went the route, yielding three runs on eight hits (a home run and seven singles). He walked two and struck out 10. Eighty of his 113 pitches (64%) were strikes.
Maslar and Josh Mommers each went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Mommers had a key double as part of the four-run rally in the fifth.
The Sons of Blackbeard -- champs of the Great Lakes Conference West Division last spring -- are 16-2 over their last 18 conference games.
