AVON, Ohio (April 5, 2025) -- Rocky River triumphed 12-4 over Avon in non-conference action Saturday. The Pirates leveraged a six-run top of the second, scored in 5-of-7 innings, and outhit the Eagles 12-5 in an 11-4 victory. Avon and River got in the game on a rainy Saturday on the artificial turf of Metro Health Stadium.
The Pirates (2-2) sent 11 men to the plate in a six-run second that snapped a 1-1 tie. Bryant Hurt, Jackson Powe, Elliot Hibshman, and Griffin Hill registered consecutive singles during the rally, and River had five hits and three walks in the inning.
The Maroon & White got solid pitching in pushing their lead -- then 7-1 -- the rest of the way without serious challenge. Andrew Locsei (four runs allowed in 3-2/3 innings pitched), Joe Brant (1-1/3 IP), and Michael Perry (2 IP) handled River's mound work in what marked the program's second win over the Eagles in as many years.
Hibshman finished the day 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. He was one of three Raiders to file two stolen bases in the game (Landon Biscardi, Powe). Josh Mommers reached base four times with a triple and three walks. Jeff Maslar, Powe, and Henry Tovissi all had two-hit games. Biscardi drew three walks and scored three runs.
Rocky River is scheduled to open Cleveland West Conference play with a Monday home game against Lakewood.
