RRMS Spanish Class Service Project Raises Money for World Central Kitchen

May 7, 2024

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio – Students in Spanish 7 at Rocky River Middle School recently spearheaded a service fundraiser project tied to their Food Unit, which delved into the work of renowned Spanish chef and humanitarian José Andrés. Andrés is the founder of World Central Kitchen which provides emergency food and water in times of emergencies and disasters.

This year’s initiative was highly successful, raising more than $4,000. The RRMS Spanish 7 class has raised more than $7,000 for World Central Kitchen over the last two years.

The students employed various tactics to solicit donations, including offering chores, mowing lawns and babysitting. Additionally, they created publicity materials such as signs, posters and commercials to spread awareness within the school.

As part of their efforts, they organized a slushie sale, collaborating with the 808 Shave Ice Food Truck, which came to RRMS on May 3. Owned by Rocky River alums Alexi and Nick Kudej, the food truck generously pledged 40% of the proceeds from the sale of 433 slushies to World Central Kitchen.
