Reading workshop is structured to allow for direct teacher instruction, followed by opportunities for students to practice reading strategies and skills during silent reading. Reflection is essential as the students share out their experiences with new strategies and skills at the end of each lesson. While students are independently practicing these skills, they will work within the parameters of The Daily Five. We spent the first two weeks becoming familiar with The Daily Five routines to ensure smooth transitions and amplified success. While students are participating in The Daily Five, four to six students will meet for a small group lesson with the teacher. This approach ensures that the students receive instruction that caters to their individual needs by reinforcing difficult concepts and extending learning further.
