River rallies but falls by 6 at Shaker Heights

RR Boys Basketball

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (Feb. 13, 2024) -- Rocky River came up on the short end of a hard-fought non-conference tussle Tuesday. The Pirates lost 61-55 at Shaker Heights.

The Red Raiders (4-16) opened a 6-point lead by halftime (34-28) and a 12-point edge by the end of the third quarter (47-35), but the Pirates charged back with a strong fourth to make things interesting late. Seniors Jaden Charney, Julian Patti, and Ryan Ricketti each scored 14 points in the losing effort, as River closed out a stretch of four consecutive road games.

Senior guard Kaden Aaron netted 10 points to paced host Shaker Heights, which saw six players score 6 points or more. The victory on home hardwood snapped a 10-game losing streak for a Shaker squad that has played a grinder of a schedule to date.

Charney, Ricketti, and Hakeem Zayed were the Buccaneers' top scorers in a 20-point fourth quarter. [Game stats unavailable at time of publication.]

Rocky River (9-9) now swings into a portion of its slate that has the Sons of Blackbeard at home for four in a row. River will open that stretch Friday against Lincoln West (7 p.m.).
