Pirates top Indians 53-49

RR Boys Basketball

ALLIANCE, Ohio (Dec. 23, 2022) -- Rocky River kept its season-opening win streak alive, as the Pirates defeated Canal Fulton Northwest 53-49.

Senior center Will DeClerck paced the Pirates in what marked the team's third game decided by six points or less. DeClerck notched 14 points and seven rebounds. In a neutral-site contest played at the University of Mount Union, Rocky River got 10 points from Gavin O'Brien and eight each from Julian Patti and Hakeem Zayed.

Rocky River (5-0) is undefeated through five games for the first time since 2018.

The Pirates will play host to the River Basketball Association Holiday Hoops Classic Dec. 27-28. The tournament features both boys and girls games. On the boys' side, the four-team bracket includes Rocky River, Avon Lake, John Hay, and Padua. River will open against John Hay Tuesday at 5 p.m. Games will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. each day.
