RR Boys' Basketball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River fell to Westlake 76-48 Friday. The Demons outshot and out-rebounded the Pirates and leveraged pressure defense and solid passing in the second of two Great Lakes Conference West Division meetings between the west-side neighbors.

Westlake (11-2, 2-2 GLC West) rode a 15-4 surge to a 24-11 lead by the early minutes of the second quarter. Rocky River (6-7, 3-5) went just 1-of-10 shooting in the second quarter and found itself down 38-18 by halftime.

The second half was more of the same, with an outmanned River squad unable to generate enough quality looks on offense to muster a comeback. For the game, the Pirates shot 32.6% (15-of-46) from the field. The Demons shot 52.5% (32-of-61) while earning a 35-26 edge on the boards.

Ray Ellington (16 points, four assists), Basheer Alramahi (14 points), Will Ostrowski (12 points), and Jacob Miller (seven points, 10 rebounds) logged impressive performances for Westlake, which had defeated River 83-63 at home Dec. 17. The Demons remained undefeated on the road (7-0) with the victory; overall, they have won four in a row.

The Pirates got 10 points from Ian Tomsik and a 7-and-7 performance (points-rebounds) from Will DeClerck. Marshall Walker had five points and four rebounds in the contest which snapped a three-game River win streak.

Rocky River is now 2-9 versus Westlake since 2011.

The Pirates' next game is slated for Tuesday, when they travel to Elyria, Ohio, to take on Open Door (6:30 p.m.).
