Late life lifts River to overtime win

RR Boys' Basketball

PARMA, Ohio -- The Pirates pulled off a come-from-behind, overtime victory, as Rocky River defeated Normandy, 70-63, on Friday.

The Maroon & White were down by as many as 11 points in the first half of their Great Lakes Conference road contest, and they would trail by eight (56-48) with just 78 seconds remaining in regulation time. Defense and distance shooting got River into an extra session, and Robby Lang and Patrick Lange would combine for 11 points in overtime, as the Pirates earned their first win of the season.

"The guys did a great job of grinding all night," said Head Coach Mike Murray. "We didn't shoot the ball well early and some guys got in early foul trouble, but they kept fighting."

For the game, Rocky River (1-1, 1-1 GLC) got 18 points from Tommy Bebie, 17 from Braedon Spies, and 16 from Robby Lang. Six-foot-6 senior forward Stefan Stanic led Normandy (1-2, 1-1) with 31 points.

The Pirates' 70 points marked their most in a single game since Feb. 26, 2019 (74 vs. Firelands).
