ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River remained unbeaten in Northern Ohio Lacrosse League play with a 12-7 victory over Avon Lake on Tuesday night. Senior midfielder Will Bennett netted five goals for the Pirates who have now won three straight games and five of their last six.
River scored three goals in each period, and Bennett had at least one score in each of the four. The senior captain has a team-high 16 goals on the season.
The Pirates led, 3-1, at the end of one period, 6-3 at halftime, and 9-4 through three frames.
Rocky River (5-2, 5-0 Northern Ohio Lacrosse League) outshot Avon Lake, 39-20, and the Pirates put 26 shots on frame to the Shoremens' 12. The home side dominated the game's turnover exchange: River was tagged with 17 miscues; Avon Lake committed 27.
The Pirates' goal scorers were Bennett, Hayden Weaver (three), Rowan McDougal, Ryan Hildebrand (two), and Nathan Robertson. The Double-R got solid field contributions from Mack Massad (13-9 on 22 faceoffs) and Charlie Hudson (four ground balls, four caused turnovers).
Through Tuesday's action, the Pirates are one of three NOLL teams without a league loss (Olmsted Falls 3-0, Strongsville 2-0).
Rocky River's season will continue Saturday with a non-conference game against Columbus St. Francis.
