Pirate Press Wins Awards At OSMA

The annual Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) annual conference and banquet was held on Friday, April 1, 2016. Each year, the Pirate Press submits entries to the Ohio Scholastic Media Association’s (OSMA) state contest. This year, although the staff wasn’t able to attend the banquet, they were successful in bringing home a number of awards.

The Pirate Press was awarded 16 accolades in a number of categories. Senior Andrea McGannon brought home an Excellent rating in both the Sports Feature category as well as the Online Sports Story Category. Junior Angela Pujolas along with sophomores Kristin Berchak and Kaitlin Martin also earned Excellent ratings. The Pirate Press Staff earned an Exellent rating in the Staff Editorial category. The following staff members were also awarded one or more honorable mentions: Sarah Capri (2), Gillian Eames, Seanna Gonzalez, Andrea McGannon, Clara Sandu (3), Colin Trudell, Emma Wagh, and Maeve Walsh (2). The Pirate Press won third place in the Overall Newsmagazine category, and the online counterpart, The Hook won an honorable mention in the Overall Online News Site category.

The staff of the 2015-2016 Pirate Press is more than pleased with the results of the contest and is thankful for the ongoing support of RRHS and the Rocky River community.
