Pirates sink Clippers 13-5

RR Softball

LORAIN, Ohio (March 27, 2024) -- Four Pirate batters cranked out multiple hits and the Maroon & White hoisted crooked numbers late, as Rocky River won 13-5 at Clearview Wednesday.

The Double-R turned a 3-1 advantage into a 7-1 lead with a four-spot in the top of the fifth. Freshman infielder Carly Ewing doubled in a run as part of that outburst, and she finished the day 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs batted in.

The Pirates (2-0) would get four more runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh as they hit double digits in run production for a second straight game. The Rocky River offense may have even underplayed its abundant chances in the non-conference road tilt against the Clippers. River registered 11 hits and 10 walks in the game; the Buccaneers also had a hit batsman and were the beneficiaries of five Clearview errors.

Joining Ewing in the hit parade were Reagan Kane (3-for-4, triple, 2 RBIs, walk), Leigh Konet (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, walk, hit by pitch), and Sienna DeMooy (4-for-4, double, walk, 2 RBIs, two stolen bases).

Kane was River's lone pitcher on the day. She allowed five runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks. The Pirate newcomer struck out 12 and now has 21 punch-outs through her first 10 prep innings.

Rocky River is slated to host Villa Angela-St. Joseph Thursday at Pirate Field.
