MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 3, 2024) -- The Pirates were swept in both ends of a split doubleheader, as Rocky River continued play in the Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach Spring Training Tournament Wednesday. River was defeated 12-1 by Independence (W. Va.) and 11-0 by St. Francis (N.Y.).

Rocky River (2-3) was held to six hits over the two contests. Freshman Elizabeth Smalley had three of those hits and is now 4-of-6 at the plate over the Buccaneers' trip to the Grand Strand.

On Thursday, the Pirates are slated to close out their trip with a game against a familiar foe. River is scheduled to play the Bay Rockets at 3:45 p.m. That tilt will mark the Great Lakes Conference opener for the Maroon & White.
