Pirates sunk in home opener

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 9, 2024) -- The Pirates returned to Buckeye State action Tuesday after playing four games in Myrtle Beach, S.C., April 2-4. And the Maroon & White returned to the Corner of Northview & 90 as well: on Tuesday, Rocky River played its 2024 home opener at Pirate Field. The Buccaneers fell to the North Omsted Eagles 13-4.

Rocky River was undone by two big innings in the warm and windy Great Lakes Conference West Division affair. North Olmsted dented the plate six times in the third inning and four more times in the fifth. The Eagles made liberal use of four Pirate errors: Six of North Olmsted's 13 runs were of the unearned variety.

On offense, Rocky River (3-4, 1-1 GLC West) was held to two runs in the fourth and one each in the sixth and seventh. Eliabeth Smalley was responsible for half of River's four runs. Smalley's career-first home run, a shot to left-center in the home half of the fourth, plated a pair of runs.

The Pirates are slated to play a return game at North Olmsted Wednesday.
