MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 5, 2024) -- Rocky River closed out a 3-for-3 sweep in the Palmetto State with a 15-3 conquest of DuPont Manual (Ky.) in Friday-afternoon action at the South Atlantic Bank Invitational. The Pirates pestered five Crimsons pitchers to the tune of 15 hits (six for extra bases) and 10 walks, and junior Michael Perry cruised on the mound, giving the Double-R a complete-game three hitter.

Batting as the visiting team, Rocky River (5-0) put seven of its first nine batters on base as part of opening a commanding 6-1 lead through the end of two innings. The River offense would click all day, and four of the Pirates' top-six in the batting order reached base three or more times.

Perry was sharp in staying ahead in the count, getting ground balls and strikeouts in bunches. For the game, he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while fanning nine. Over the three games in Myrtle Beach, Pirate pitchers clocked a 2.00 ERA.

The Baseball Buccaneers scored runs in five of their seven innings against duPont (7-5). Junior shortstop Josh Mommers had a hit, drew three walks, and was hit by a pitch. For the week in South Carolina, Mommers went 4-for-4, with a double, a triple,  and seven walks.

In Friday's trip finale against the Crimsons, Anthony Ferchill went 3-for-5 with a triple  and two runs batted in. Henry Tovissi went 2-for-4 with two doubles with four RBIs. Griffin Hill went 3-for-4 with a double and walk, and Thomas Rossi filed two hits and walk in five plate appearances.

Rocky River's next game is slated for Tuesday when the Pirates open Great Lakes Conference West Division play at North Olmsted.
