Pirates bounce back to earn split with Eagles

RR Softball

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (April 10, 2024) -- Rocky River bounced back from a Tuesday home loss to North Olmsted, defeating the Eagles Wednesday on the road and earning a split in the two-game Great Lakes Conference West Division series. Freshman hurler Reagan Kane scattered six hits inholding off the home nine after an early River surge; the Pirates defeated the Eagles 6-3.

Kane helped her own cause with a run-scoring double that was part of a two-run opening frame for the Maroon & White. Third baseman Rylie Quaiser had a hit in that first inning and also singled in the third as part of a three-run rally. Quaiser also walked in the third, a frame that saw the Pirates bat around and send 13 to the plate.

For the game, Quaiser went 2-for-2 with two walks in raising her season on-base percentage to .368.

Left fielder Leigh Konet had an RBI single in Rocky River's third inning. Konet would go on to register a 3-for-4 afternoon while knocking in two runs. Elleana Biscardi also had a three-hit day for the Pirates (4-4, 2-1 GLC West).

Kane worked in and around base traffic in the first three innings. She suffered some early-inning wildness in the fourth, and Eagles that reached on a walk and hit-by-pitch came around to score and cut the River lead to 5-2. But Kane made it through the top of the North Olmsted order in the fifth, allowing just one. She pitched a 1-2-3 sixth and a low-drama seventh to seal the win.

Kane walked two and struck out five. She has whiffed 43 batters over her first 41 prep innings.
