Rangers edge River 2-1 in GLC crossover

LAKEWOOD, Ohio (April 14, 2024) -- Rocky River dropped a hard-fought defensive tussle at Lakewood Saturday. The Pirates were held to a lone run plated in the top of the sixth in an eventual 2-1 loss to a strong Rangers' squad that had won its previous five contests and piled up 14.2 runs per game in doing so.

Mia Carroll-Greeves outdueled Reagan Kane in a well-pitched Bridge Battle. Carroll-Greeves struck out the first six batters she faced, fanned 13 for the game, and went the route for the home nine. She walked only one batter and allowed just four hits, and River's lone run was aided by a Ranger error. Carroll-Greeves pounded the strike zone, throwing 66 of 88 pitches for strikes.

Kane also went the distance, yielding two runs on seven hits and a walk. She struck out six. Lakewood got its runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Both came on two-out RBI singles by Carroll-Greeves.

The River freshman has allowed three runs or less in three of her lasty four starts.

Sienna DeMooy reached base twice (single, walk) and ledgered a stolen base, her team-leading fifth of the season. Madison Comer went 3-for-3 with a run scored for Lakewood.

Rocky River (4-5) is scheduled to host a Great Lakes Conference West Division game against Elyria Catholic Tuesday.
