Raider Datebook: New and notes from the Wrestling Raiders, Feb. 12, 2024

GLC Tournament

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Feb. 12, 2024) -- The Wrestling postseason has arrived. On Feb. 9 and Feb. 10, Rocky River capped off its regular season with the squad's final match and tournament, with Rocky River squaring off against Lutheran West and competing in the Great Lakes Conference Tournament.

On Feb. 9, the Pirates fell to the Longhorns in a hard-fought Duel in the School. Lutheran West defeated River 31-30 on a tie-breaker. The Wrestling Raiders went 4-5 across nine bouts on the mat; all four River victories were via pins. The loss finalized Rocky River's dual mark at 8-13. Six of the team's losses were by five points or less.

On Feb. 10, the Pirates clocked a sixth-place finish in the 10-team GLC Tournament. The Double-R earned runner-up finishes at 144 pounds (Dylan Heffron) and 165 pounds (Connor Schiefferle), a third-place finish at 157 (Lincoln Krish), and a fourth-place finish at 285 (Laith Qasem). Heffron's runner-up finish marked his third this season. Schiefferle has now registered two firsts and two seconds.

As a team, Rocky River scored 65 points in the tournament held at Westlake High School. Valley Forge (184) edged the host Demons (176.5) for the circuit crown. [GLC results]

Krish logged a win by fall Feb. 9 and went 3-1 in the GLC event. He is 14-3 since Jan. 20 and 29-11 overall.

The Wrestling Raiders are now bound for postseason bracket action. Rocky River will send its grapplers to Kenston for a Northeast District sectional qualifier on Feb. 24.
