Bucs undone by Rocket second half, fall 2-1

RR Boys Soccer

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (Oct. 4, 2023) -- Rocky River lost its first game since Sept. 9, snapping a seven-match win streak, as the Pirates lost 2-1 at Bay in Wednesday night Great Lakes Conference West Division action.

Rocky River (12-3, 3-1 GLC West) got a first-half goal from senior captain Zach Kern, his 11th of the season, and the visitors took that goal into halftime as a 1-0 lead. But the Kern twine-finder -- assisted by Eric Gorius -- would represent 25% of the Pirates' shots on frame for the match, and the host Rockets pulled off the comeback.

Goals by Ben Fry and Ewan Moss pushed Bay (7-6-1, 2-1) past the Pirates on a warm, June-like evening at Bay Memorial Stadium.

The Rockets finished with 10 shots on goal: Gio Lizzini was credited with eight saves. Bay has now won three straight games since going 0-4-1 from Sept. 2-16. The Rockets have won eight straight against the Pirates and are 10-1-4 across the last 15 games against River.

The Pirates are slated to close out their regular season with an Oct. 11 home game against North Olmsted.
