Bay daze: Bucs undone by Rocket power in 3-0 setback

RR Volleyball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Oct. 10, 2023) -- Rocky River fell to Bay 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) Tuesday evening.

The Pirates were undone on serves -- both inbound and out -- in the early going, and the Rockets (16-5, 7-1 Great Lakes Conference West Division) completed a season sweep of the River Six.

"We started off slow with serving and serve receive tonight," said coach Brittany Hensley. "I was, however, proud of the girls for not giving up and working hard in the third set even though we were down 0-2. I saw a fight in them tonight that I haven't really seen all the time this season. That was good to see."

Rocky River (13-8, 4-4) was tagged with 10 service errors and 32 dig errors. River's 10.7 dig errors per set marked its most since Sept. 16 (13.5 vs. Avon Lake).

The Pirates were led by Ella Brokaw (seven kills, two aces, three digs, two total blocks), Lyniah Campbell-Cass (8K), Ella Duffy (eight assists, 6D), and Maggie Pfahl (12 digs against four errors).

For Bay, Olivia Miller registered 12 kills while hitting .500. The Rockets outhit the Pirates .288 to .172.

The Double-R will close out its regular season Thursday at Elyria Catholic.
