Best in the West; River tops North Olmsted 8-0, wins GLC West title

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (Oct. 11, 2023) -- Rocky River closed out its Great Lakes Conference West Division campaign with an 8-0 rout of the North Olmsted Eagles Wednesday. The victory sealed the deal on the Pirates earning the West Division championship with an unblemished mark of 4-0. That crown marks the 11th conference title in program history.

Junior forward Sophia Sindelar scored four goals for a third consecutive game and is now within two scores of the program record for goals in a single season (43-Abby Elinsky, 2013). Senior Kylie Crane registered two goals, her second and third of the season. And Ava Patti clocked a four-point match with a goal and two assists.

Both Patti and Sindelar broke free from a four-way tie for most goals in Rocky River history (Patti, Sindelar, Elinsky, Grace Bennett-82 each) with their exploits against the Eagles (4-8-2, 0-3 GLC West).

Rocky River (16-0, 4-0) goalkeeper Caitlin Rose played all 80 minutes between the pipes but not see any action, as the Pirates held an overmatched North Olmsted squad without a shot on frame.

Sindelar has scored 22 goals over her last six games. She's scored three-or-more goals nine times this season.

The No. 2 (Ohio High School Athletic Association DII State Poll) Pirates will close out their regular-season slate with a Saturday non-conference home match against No. 12 Clear Fork. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
