Double-R boys take title at Medina meet

RR Boys Cross Country

MEDINA, Ohio (Oct. 7, 2023) -- The Rocky River boys clocked a win in Saturday's 32nd Annual Milt Place Cross Country Festival. The Pirates bolted to five top-30 finishes in earning the victory. The River girls took fourth place in their competition. [Results]

The Pirate boys went low, scoring 90 points over their five counting runs. That score best perennial powerhouse Woodridge (100), North Canton Hoover (111), and 23 other schools in the event hosted by Medina High School. Grant Preto led the way for the Pirates. In a field of 220 runners, he placed ninth with his time of 16:09.79. River's other scorers were Jackson Rood (16th), Ben Buehrle (19th), Ruairi Zuercher  (21st), and Henry Lange (27th).

On the girls side, Brianna Chaves-Bernal took fourth place in leading a Rocky River effort which included five top-50s. Only three runners in a field of 176 posted faster times than Chaves-Bernal's 18:40.27. As a team, River scored 119 points. Avon won the event with a score of 75; the girls' field included 22 teams.

Also scoring for the Pirate girls were Grace Lavelle (9th), Jane Rathbun (12th), Lauren Lavelle (46th), Katie Stirm (48th), and Grace DeWitt (50th).
