ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Oct. 21, 2023) -- Rocky River defeated Elyria Catholic 5-0 in Saturday OHSAA DII Northeast 5 District Tournament action.

The Pirates (15-3) scored all five of their goals in a late-game surge after they had played 50 scoreless minutes with the visiting Panthers. The final score marked River's second straight shutout in the playoffs and their third straight overall. And a Double-R squad that is now 10-1 since Sept. 16 is headed toward a home-field district semifinal on Tuesday.

Saturday's goals were scored by Zach Kern (two), Sebastien Maher, Stephen Cain, and Walid Tokhi.

Rocky River -- the No. 4 seed in DII Region -- will host No. 12 Hawken on Tuesday (6 p.m., Rocky River Stadium).
