Win streak snapped; Pirates fall to Demons

RR Softball

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (April 30, 2024) -- The Pirates had their five-game win streak snapped, as Westlake defeated Rocky River 8-3 in Tuesday-night Great Lakes Conference West Division action.

A big six-run fourth inning went a long way to helping the Demons level their two-game home-and-home series against the Double-R. Westlake leveraged six straight hits to start the inning and for the game batted .400 with runners in scoring position. Center fielder Katherine England had two hits in the Demon fourth and reached base three times in game.

Rocky River (11-8, 4-3) was held in check by Westlake pitcher Cydney Loucka, who allowed eight hits in a walk-less seven-inning start. The Demons were tagged with five errors; all three runs Loucka allowed were of the unearned variety.

The River offense amounted to a home run by freshman Reagan Kane, her career first, and little else. Elleana Biscardi and Leigh Konet each tallied two hits, but the Pirates batting attack was mostly silent after the early innings. The Maroon & White had scored 13.4 runs per game over their five straight wins, but Tuesday's contest at Pirate Field saw little production, especially from the top of the River order.

The River Raiders are slated to continue their busy stretch of action with a Wednesday GLC West game at Elyria Catholic (5 p.m.).
