RR Boys Lacrosse

DELAWARE, Ohio (April 27, 2024) --  The Pirates closed out their two-day Columbus-area trio with an 8-3 loss to Olentangy Berlin Saturday.

Junior attackman Dominic Ricketti scored all three Rocky River goals, one in the first period, one in the third and one in the fourth. Ricketti's first marker lifted the visiting Maroon & White to a 1-0 lead, but the Bears rallied to take control of the contest by scoring the next four goals of the afternoon. Berlin tallied two goals in each quarter and after the 8:28-mark of the second led by multiple scores the rest of the way.

For the game, the Bears outshot the Buccaneers 31-22. Berlin put 20 shots on frame to River's 11. Freshman goalkeeper Gordon Hudson notched 12 saves in the game and finished the weekend with a fine .686 save percentage (24-of-35).

Junior William Sawyer filed five ground balls and a caused turnover for the Pirates (10-3), who went 1-1 on the Franklin County sojourn. Two of Sawyer's goal were tagged with assists (Rowan McDougal, Joe Smith).

River played games at Kenston, Bexley, and Berlin during the week. The Pirates still have two more road contests (Tuesday at Avon, Thursday at University School) in a stretch that has them playing five in a row away from the Lacrosse Grounds on Detroit Road.
