WESTLAKE, Ohio (April 29, 2024) -- The Rocky River Pirates are on a roll. On Monday night, the Maroon & White defeated the Westlake Demons 10-4 in a Great Lakes Conference West Division tilt. The victory marked the Pirates fifth in a row and their seventh in their last eight games. And now in all seven of those wins, the Double-R has logged double-digit run totals.

On Monday, Rocky River battled back from a 4-3 deficit through three innings. River bats showed late life and, once again, power, and pitcher Reagan Kane handcuffed the home nine after yielding four early runs. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the fourth, the River Raiders got a big two-out single from Kane that, along with a Westlake error, plated two runs and vaulted the visitors into the lead (5-4).

The Pirates (11-7, 4-2 GLC West) would get another big two-out hit in the fifth, a two-run triple by center fielder Sienna DeMooy, as they opened a more comfortable 7-4 lead. For the game, DeMooy went 3-of-4 and had four runs batted in. The leadoff batter's season on-base percentage now stands at an even .500.  

River's eighth, ninth, and 10th runs came on a home run (Elizabeth Smalley's third), an RBI single (Elleana Biscardi), and an RBI ground-out. The latter two runs were plated with two outs; the Pirates ledgered five two-out RBIs for the game.

The visiting nine outhit Westlake 14-10. Kane didn't allow a runner past first base over the last three innings and for the game struck out six without issuing a walk.

DeMooy, Maggie Heigle (2-for-5), Smalley (2-for-5, double, home run), Kane (2-for-3, walk), and Rylie Quaiser (3-for-4) all registered multiple hits for a Pirate batting attack which has slashed a .365/.472/.509 since April 19. Rocky River has scored 13.4 runs per game over that stretch.

Monday's contest at Westlake marked the front end of a two-day GLC West home-and-home series. The Pirates are scheduled to host the Demons in a 5 p.m. contest at the Corner of Northview & 90 on Tuesday.
