River undone by strong Westlake pitching

RR Baseball

WESTLAKE, Ohio (April 29, 2024) -- The No-No River Raiders got a dose of their own medicine as they were no-hit by Westlake in a Great Lakes Conference West Division match-up Monday afternoon.

Rocky River, which has registered three of its own no-hitters this season, was unable to manage a base knock off Demons hurler Chris Protos. The Pirates lost the game 5-0. Protos issued just one walk while whiffing 16 batters. In 95 pitches, the senior threw 69 strikes.

The 2-, 3-, and 4- batters for Westlake (12-6, 5-0 GLC West) combined for five hits in a game that had just six. Those hits and the five Demons runs (four earned) came against River starter Thomas Rossi, who went six innings. Clean-up hitter Drew Arkwright went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, and three runs batted in.

The Demons scored their runs in the first, third, and fourth innings.

The loss marked the second in a row for Rocky River (15-2, 4-1). The Pirates are slated to host Westlake at Rocky River Field Tuesday at 5 p.m.
