Third is the word as River registers rapid runs at Mentor meet

MENTOR, Ohio (Sept. 2, 2023) -- Rocky River came away with third-place finishes at Saturday's Mentor Cardinal Classic Invitational. The Double-R boys carded a team score of 110 in their race; the River girls posted a score of 116. Both teams were buoyed by five top-40 performances. [Results]

For the Pirate boys, seniors Grant Preto, Ben Buehrle, and Ruairi Zuercher, and junior Henry Lange were bunched in a group of runners placing 13th through 21st. Owen Walsh was the team's No. 5, placing 37th.

Senior Brianna Chaves (fourth) and junior Grace Lavelle (15th) were Rocky River's top runners on the girls side. Chaves made her way over the course in 19:23.15. Katie Stirm (28th), Jane Rathbun (33rd), and Grace DeWitt (36th) also scored for the Pirates

The boys competition was comprised of 27 teams and 210 athletes. The girls race included 24 teams and 200 runners.
