Super-size Demonized: Pirates net 9-1 triumph against Westlake

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Sept. 20, 2023) -- The Pirates ran their season-opening win streak into double digits in a 9-1 rout of the Westlake Demons Wednesday.

The Maroon & White yielded the first goal of the Great Lakes Conference West Division match and then pounced on the visiting Demons, eventually tying their season mark for most goals in a single match (Aug. 19, Sept. 6, Sept. 9). Junior Sophia Sindelar scored over half of Rocky River's goals: Sindelar dizzied the Demon goalkeeper with five goals in the contest at Rocky River Stadium.

Joining Sindelar on the scoresheet were Maeve Kelly, Ava Patti, and Mackenzie Russell (two). Patti registered five assists on the night. The Pirates scored six goals in the first half and three in the second.

Rocky River (10-0, 2-0 GLC West) has now defeated Westlake in three consecutive meetings (2021-23).

YOUNG BUCS
: In Wednesday's JV game, Rocky River scored two second-half goals (Audrey Spurlock, Morgan Burnett) in a 2-0 shutout over Westlake. Rylie Quaiser made three saves.

200 CLUB: With her goal and five assists Wednesday, Ava Patti reached a few career milestones. Her netfinder marked the 75th goal of her career. Only two River players (Abby Elinsky, Grace Bennett) have scored more career goals; they each tallied 86 goals. Patti also crossed over the 200-career-point-mark during the match. She now has 75 goals and 52 assists for 202 points. She is just the second Pirate to reach 200 points (Bennett is River's career-record holder with 210 points). With her  52 assists, Patti also becomes the program's second player to hit 50 assists in a career (NcKenna Klodnick 60). ... Patti has 13G and 19A (45P) this season.

ON DECK: Rocky River's next match is slated for Sept. 27 at Elyria Catholic.
