River shows its stripes, cages Tigers 5-1

RR Girls Soccer

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio (Sept. 18, 2023) -- Dynamic scorers Ava Patti and Sophia Sindelar were the front edge of a Pirate sword that cut its way to four goals in a 13-minute span in the first half, and Rocky River  -- the No. 2-ranked team in the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association DII State Poll -- went on to defeat host Chagrin Falls 5-1 Monday.

Rory Vesy got the Pirates going in the 23rd minute, netting her first goal of the season. The undefeated Buccaneers would rattle off three more unanswered goals before the match was 35 minutes old. Patti and Sindelar each figured in two of those three goals, and River took a 4-0 advantage into the second half of the non-conference affair against the Tigers.

The second half was a one-for-one exchange on the scoreboard, with Patti getting her fourth and fifth points of the evening on a late-match unassisted marker.

Caitlyn Rose was credited with one save in the victory, River's fourth in its last five meetings with Chagrin Falls. Mia Carney and Mackenzie Russell each filed assists.

Patti (12G-14A--38P) and Sindelar (19G-14A--52P) have now combined for 90 points this season.

The Pirates are slated to host Westlake in a Great Lakes Conference West Division match Wednesday.
