Haddie Holton

MEDINA, Ohio (Oct. 10, 2022) -- Rocky River dropped a 3-1 (17-25,16-25,25-18,16-25) non-conference match at Medina Monday.

The Pirates filed a .128 hitting percentage as they had a four-match win streak snapped.

"This was a good test for us heading into our conference championship match and postseason," said coach Brittany Morris. "I really like the way the girls battled back in that third set. That's difficult to do."

River had four aces -- two each by Clare Duffy and Samantha Young -- in that third game. The Pirates also registered 20 digs against just four errors. Duffy and Young combined for nine digs against no errors in that 25-18 win.

For the match, Rocky River had 10 aces but was also tagged with eight service errors. The Maroon & White had seven blocks after recording a combined six over their previous three matches.

Young had 16 kills while hitting .200. She is now six swats away from tying Rocky River's career kills mark (928, Ava Rauser 2015-18). The junior standout also logged 23 digs against just three errors.

Clare Duffy finished with 14 digs against just one miscue. Ella Brokaw registered six kills. Sophia Golberg filed four total blocks and three errorless digs.

Rocky River (16-4) will take on Holy Name Thursday at Holy Name High School. That match pitting the Great Lakes Conference's two division champs (West, East) will mark the circuit's title event.
