ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (Oct. 22, 2022) -- A Fionn Harte goal and a gritty all-around performance up and down the lineup earned the Rocky River Pirates a 1-0 victory over Lutheran West in OHSAA DII Akron 3 District Tournament action Saturday.

The hard-fought victory -- River's third in a row -- has the No. 17-seed Pirates advancing to a Tuesday contest at No. 6 Orrville. The Buccaneers (7-6-5) and Red Riders will tussle in a 6 p.m. district semifinal. Rocky River is seeking a third postseason victory for the first time since 2009.

"We had to work for it, fight for it, and want it more," said coach Kevin Zerbey, whose Pirates stymied a 12-5 Longhorns squad that had averaged nearly 4 goals per game heading into Saturday. "I'm extreme;y pround of our entire team."

Harte's Saturday game-winner marked his team-leading sixth goal this season.
