Double-R doubles up on top-10s at Boardman invite

BOARDMAN, Ohio (Sept. 17, 2022) -- Rocky River posted impressive performances in taking seventh (boys) and fourth (girls) place in the 37th Annual Boardman Spartan Cross Country Invitational, held Saturday at Boardman High School. [results]

The Pirate boys scored 336 points to place seventh in a field of 44 teams and 369 runners. Seniors Majid Abuaun (33rd place) and Like Dorenkott (45th) led the River effort. The Buccaneers' three other scorers were Ruairi Zuercher (59th), Grant Preto (96th), and Simon Baum (110th).

Pittsburgh North Allegheny had the top finisher (John Bertram, 15:57.0) and, with 86 points, won the team competition.

The Rocky River girls tallied 192 points in finishing fourth. All five River scorers finished in the top-60 of a 319-man field. Junior Brianna Chaves crossed the wire with a time of 19:38.3 to take seventh place. Chaves was backed on the Pirate scorecard by Katie Stirm (39th), Grace Lavelle (47th), Allie Dewey (48th), and Jane Rathbun (51st). Rocky River clocked an average time of 20:55.7.

Thirty-seven teams competed on the girls side. North Allegheny boasted four of the top six finishers in scoring 29 points in  boys-girls sweep if the DI race. North Allegheny sophomore Wren Kucler took first place.
