Patti, Sindelar pace Pirates in busy weekend action abroad

RR Girls Soccer

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (Sept. 5, 2022) -- Rocky River built a picket fence over a long Labor Day weekend of three games -- two in the Hoosier State and one in Warsaw, Ohio. The Pirates went 1-1-1 over the trio of early-September matches.

The Pirates (5-1-1) were defeated 2-0 by Evansville Memorial on Friday. Indiana's Division 2A No. 1 (Indiana High School Soccer Coaches Association) squad held the Pirates to just six shots in that affair.

On Saturday, Rocky River fell behind 3A No. 3 Carmel 2-0 but then battled back with second-half markers by Ava Patti and Sophia Sindelar to work a 2-2 draw.

The Friday and Saturday matches were held in Zionsville, Ind., and were part of the Lady Eagle Invitational, an event hosted by Zionsville High School.

On Monday, the Maroon & White closed out their trip by dominating a rain-soaked battle against Newark at the Labor Day Showcase -- hosted by River View High School -- in Warsaw. The Pirates rifled off a 28-to-1 advantage in shots on goal and defeated the Wildcats 6-0. Patti and Sindelar each scored twice in that game; Cara McKenna and Mackenzie Russell each had three assists in what marked Rocky River's fourth shutout of the season.

The Pirates are slated to close out their busy stretch of six games in 10 days (Aug. 29-Sept. 7) with a Wednesday match at Lakewood.
