Cross-river conquest: Pirates sink Rangers 3-0

Sophia Sindelar

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- After a holiday weekend of long bus rides, Rocky River made the short trip to Lakewood for a match against the Rangers Wednesday. The Pirates made the trip a victorious one, earning a 3-0 win over Lakewood.

The Pirates (6-1-1) outshot the Rangers 30-2. The Maroon & White put 15 of those 30 shots on frame; three found twine. All three goals -- one in the first half and two in the second -- were scored by Sophia Sindelar

In the 12th minute, Mackenzie Russell and Ava Patti set up Sindelar's first of the night, a 25-yarder that eluded the Ranger goalkeeper and found the Lakewood net.

Sindelar's second goal -- again on a long shot and that time fed by Maeve Kelly -- came early in the second half, in the 46th minute. The hat trick -- and Sindelar's 17th goal of the season -- was tallied in the 76th minute, when a Cara McKenna corner kick was nodded into nylon for the final tally of the match.

The sophomore standout has already matched her impressive 35-point 2021 season. Sindelar's 35 points this season are comprised of 17 goals and one assist.

River 'keeper Caitlin Rose made two stops to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

The Pirates are scheduled to return to action Sept. 12 when they host Chagrin Falls.
